VertiClip® SL
This slide angle clip is used to connect exterior cold-formed steel curtain wall studs to the primary structure at the head of wall, while allowing for vertical deflection of the structure up to 1 ½” (¾” up & down) or 3″ (1 ½” up and 1 ½” down). TSN’s patented Step Bushing Technology provides an anti-friction and anti-seizure connection between the clip and the stud web surface.
Features
- Options for 1 ½” or 3″ deflection
- ICC-ES Approved, report #ESR-2049
- Load-rated positive mechanical attachment at each stud
- Patented Step Bushing Technology provides friction-free motion for smooth vertical deflection
- Eliminates loose friction-held assemblies, heavy deep-leg track, & top row of wall bridging/strapping
- Load-rated #12 screws provided for vertical deflection connection to stud web
- Manufactured with certified, 50ksi, 68mil, G90 cold-formed steel
* VertiClip SL is a component in VertiTrack® VTX, TSN’s pre-assembled deflection track.

VertiClip® SL Applications
VertiClip SL comes in a 1½” and 3″ deflection option. The attachment of VertiClip SL to the primary structure may be made with a PAF, screw/bolt anchors or weld and is dependent upon the base material (steel or concrete) and the design configuration.
1½” Deflection - Exterior Head of Wall Connection
3" Deflection - Exterior Head of Wall Connection
VertiClip SL® Installation Instructions
- Attach standard leg track to structure. Track will allow for alignment and closure.
- Fasten SL to top track at designed stud spacing with engineered fastener.
- Attach SL to wall stud with provided screws through Step Bushings.
VertiClip® SL – Recommended Allowable Loads (lbs):
Notes:
- Allowable load tables incorporate eccentric loading of fasteners. Values with welded connection may increase.
- Fasten within ¾” from the angle heel (centerline of the 1½” leg) to minimize eccentric load transfer.
- Guide holes for attachment to structure are 0.141″ for SL362 & SL600. Guide holes are not standard in other clip sizes.
- VertiClip SL series is designed to support horizontal loads and should not be used in axial-load-bearing wall construction.
- Total vertical deflection of up to 1½” (¾” up and ¾” down). Deflection requirements greater than ¾” (up and down) are available.
- Allowable loads have not been increased for wind, seismic, or other factors.
- #12 screws are provided with each step bushing.
- Strengthening ribs and guide holes are present in 3″ and 6″ sizes.
- For LRFD Design Strengths refer to ICC-ESR-2049
VertiClip® SL - Load Direction
VertiClip® SL w/ 3″ Deflection – Recommended Allowable Loads (lbs):
Notes:
- Meets criteria for IBC 2009, 2012. Factor of Safety calculated according to ICC-ES AC261 and section F1 of AISI S100-07
- Fasten within ¾” from the angle heel to minimize eccentric load transfer.
- VertiClip SL series is designed to support horizontal loads and should not be used in axial-load-bearing wall construction.
- Total vertical deflection of up to 3″ (1½” up and 1½” down).
- The standard bushing placement is 2″ from the top of the slot and allows the structure to settle ½” prior to typical service.
- Allowable loads have not been increased for wind, seismic, or other factors.
- #12 screws are provided with each pre-installed step bushing.
- Tests performed with bushings centered in the 3″ slots.
