Jacaranda Trace

Jacaranda Trace is a beautiful Senior Independent Living Community in Venice, FL. This eight-story structure contains approximately 700 windows, all which proved to be an opportunity to reduce materials and labor with our revolutionary JamStud® cold-formed steel framing member.

A typical project of this magnitude designed with “c-shaped” cold-formed steel studs, would include multiple built-up light steel framing members to frame out each window, including built-up jambs and box headers. Built-up jambs not only require additional materials, but they also require additional labor for welds and screws. Box headers additionally require added labor to create the box, nestling together two studs and two tracks for each opening. With 700 openings on the job, all that labor and extra material really adds up!

Thanks to JamStud®’s enlarged flange width configuration that delivers improved strength and stiffness, while increasing load capacity over a standard “c-shaped” stud of the same thickness, TSN was able to offer solutions to streamline and simplify the openings. The double and/or triple “c-shape” studs in the original built-up jambs were replaced with a single JamStud®, while the box headers were also eliminated and substituted with our unique JamStud® product. The switch to JamStud® on this project slashed materials by over 50%!

JamStud® also radically reduced labor on Jacaranda Trace. Installers were able to focus their traders elsewhere on the job instead of spending excessive time creating built-up sections for 700 windows.
