TSN 2025 Steel Landscape

Exterior curtain wall framing can present unique structural challenges — especially when accommodating vertical deflection, lateral movement, and slab bypass conditions. DriftTrak systems are designed and manufactured by The Steel Network to provide engineered solutions that simplify installation, improve field performance, and ensure load-rated connection performance in curtain wall applications.

In this overview, we highlight the three core DriftTrak solutions: DriftTrak Head of Wall, DriftTrak Bypass, and DriftTrak Post-Tensioned Slab (PTS). These systems are designed to support curtain wall studs while allowing controlled movement where required and delivering a higher-quality connection than traditional framing alternatives.

What Makes DriftTrak® Unique?

All DriftTrak products incorporate TSN’s patented Step Bushing Technology®, enabling a friction-free connection between clips and stud webs to allow for vertical deflection and lateral drift without transferring unwanted forces into curtain wall or partition framing. The systems are load-rated, manufactured in the USA from mill-certified steel, and engineered to handle the demanding conditions of modern exterior framing.

TSN engineering developed DriftTrak to eliminate performance inconsistencies and mitigate installation deficiencies often seen with traditional deep-leg track and friction-based slide systems.

Installation Note: The DriftTrak track section does not provide wall closure; a top track is required for a complete assembly.

By enabling controlled movement at the head of wall, DriftTrak ensures that curtain walls remain structurally sound and perform as intended under live load and seismic movement conditions.

DriftTrak® Head of Wall

— Engineered Head-of-Wall Drift Slide Track

The DriftTrak Head of Wall system connects exterior cold-formed steel curtain wall studs to the primary structure at the head of wall, while accommodating movement under vertical and lateral forces. It uses the DriftTrak track section with a DTSL slide angle and allows up to 2″ of vertical deflection (1″ up and 1″ down) plus free lateral drift.

Key Features:

  • Designed specifically for head of wall applications where vertical movement must be accommodated.
  • Patented Step Bushing Technology ensures smooth vertical deflection.
  • Load-rated mechanical attachment at each stud for reliable performance.
  • Track and clips manufactured from cold-formed steel with hot-dipped galvanized coatings for corrosion resistance.

DriftTrak Bypass provides a streamlined solution in curtain wall applications where slab geometry or structural conditions otherwise impede traditional attachments.

DriftTrak® Bypass

— Slab Bypass Drift Slide Track

The DriftTrak Bypass system allows exterior curtain wall studs to bypass a slab while still being connected to the primary structure. It combines DriftTrak slide track with either DTSLB slide angles or DTLB rigid angles to accommodate vertical deflection, lateral drift, or rigid attachment configurations as needed on the job.

Key Advantages:

  • Ideal when curtain wall framing must bypass a slab but still account for movement.
  • Flexible — can be configured to allow movement or be rigid depending on project requirements.
  • Offers a unique combination of drift and vertical deflection performance paired with load-rated design features.
DriftTrak PTS Application DTSLB

Designed for challenging post-tensioned slab conditions, DriftTrak PTS helps streamline exterior framing in complex structures.

DriftTrak® Post-Tensioned Slab (PTS)

— Integrated Slab Drift Track

The DriftTrak Post-Tensioned Slab (PTS) system builds on the slab bypass concept by integrating directly into a post-tensioned slab before pouring, saving time and labor by eliminating post-pour installation. It incorporates the headed stud DriftTrak track with DTSLB or DTLB clip options for vertical deflection or rigid connections and is designed to work efficiently around post-tension tendons.

Key Benefits:

  • Time-saving installation: Integrated into slab formwork before concrete pour — no DriftTrak lifting and installing after pour.
  • Locking angle (DT-LA) optional for cases where lateral drift is not required.
  • Load-rated mechanical attachment at each stud and patented Step Bushing Technology.
  • Eliminates loose friction assemblies and post installed connections into concrete, simplifying installation and improving performance.
  • Manufactured with certified cold-formed steel and hot-dipped galvanized coating to maximize durability.

Why DriftTrak® is a Smart Choice for Your Project

Whether you need movement accommodation at the head of wall, slab bypass capability, or integrated post-tensioned slab solutions, DriftTrak systems deliver engineered performance with installer-friendly features and proven load-rated design. These products are backed by TSN’s deep experience in light steel framing and are ideal when vertical deflection and drift cannot be ignored.

Engineers, specifiers, and contractors benefit from products that not only solve common connection challenges but also minimize field labor and complexity without compromising structural performance.
